Hmm…Green City Force? This organization and these people, they have truly grown on me. As a Corps Member in this organization I have learned valuable things about myself and about the true meaning of helping your community. I came to GCF not knowing anything about farming, and as my term comes to a close I feel like I know so much about growing food, nutrition, and plant maintenance. I have grown as an individual (I would like to think), but not without my shortcomings which I’d rather not divulge. This organization has given me the impetus to start my career as an environmentalist.
I would like to thank Renee Whittick, Jennifer Tirado, Ashley White, and GCF’s founder, Lisbeth Shepherd. As my Team Leader, Renee has shaped me to become a better individual, and for that I can thank her a thousand times over. Jennifer Tirado as the Director of the Urban Farm Corps has been a monument in the success of the UFC and each of its members. Thanks to Ashley White, with her firey spirit, great sense of humor, and invaluable advice. And of course, thanks to Lisbeth Shepherd, whose determination to see all of us succeed has helped propel the farm corps and its members forward. I am very grateful to have served in AmeriCorps and have had an opportunity to serve my country and community. After my service term is over I will be attending LaGuardia Community College, majoring in environmental studies to of course, become an environmentalist. I want to give Green City Force a huge ‘thank you’ for giving people like me such an amazing opportunity in life. I’ll miss you all! Au revoir!
