Before connecting to Green City Force, my alignments with employment revolved around gig to gig work and a dead-end job. Unaware of my next steps and plans to make ends meet, I was recommended by my youth mentor, Sandra Cowello, about an urban agriculture program that trains me in sustainable green practices that I’ve been wanting to contribute to for a few years now. When hearing about Green City Force I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to complete my six-month term, but as I sit here writing my testimonial I can say this has been a learning journey that I am excited to complete and move onto my next pages in life. This opportunity allowed me to gain multiple certifications that will open more opportunities to further myself and put me ahead of the competition. One of my enjoyable parts was completing energy auditing with Ricardo. Helping local communities catch up on energy efficiency, as New York’s old structure crumbles, is a warming feeling to have because I know I made a change for the better.
