Before starting Green City Force I was unsure if I was going to enjoy the program and see it through to the end but as time went on I began to like the hard labor and the flow of how my team worked. Going into the service term more, I started to learn a lot more about plants and how every farm helps with food injustices and helps the community learn a more healthy lifestyle involving food safety. I chose to become a Corps Member because I wanted more opportunity in the program and more knowledge and experiences in the program. Before joining GCF I was looking at possible jobs I wanted to pursue in the future and what skills and traits I needed to get that job. GCF helped me achieve a lot of hands-on experience and get some certifications for jobs that need it. One important thing I learned from GCF is how I present myself in a job environment. I have to consistently step out of my comfort zone and do things I wouldn’t normally do. Gaining this experience has greatly helped me shape how I am in a work environment. I want to shout out Jeremiah, Joseph, Chris, Kayla, Scenice, and Frances for making this journey fun and really helping me step out of my comfort zone and making me feel part of the friend group. I tend to be quiet but these people really helped break that shell and understand myself more.
