Green City Force has been an overwhelming experience on many fronts. From the shock of travelling to Staten Island, to the wildlife of Astoria and finally to the growth of the produce we helped grow. I chose to become a Corps Member for GCF because I wanted to experience being a part of my community that I grew up in, not fully understanding where I came from and I felt that joining a program like GCF was good for me to grow as a person. The most important thing that I took away from being at GCF is that being in an organization isn’t the same as being with your team. Your team is the best thing you can rely on–the ones beside you in the farm beds, harvesting, and traveling to the site you’ve been assigned to–it was the best time I had. The relationships and bonds you form are what you’re going to hold onto most after graduation. I want to send appreciation and affirmations to Darius Phillips, Orion Smith, Joseph Diaz, Cerenity Mejia and Fellow Scotty and Nick at Astoria.
