Green City Force meant to me a bridge to finally follow my professional passions. While no program is perfect, GCF at its core is a valuable career-starting resource for minority youth who normally struggle to get their foot in the green sector door. I became a Corps Member after being tired of the seemingly endless loop of jumping from tedious job to job. I have always been passionate about working in the botany field since I was a child. Working in environments that deep down I knew I didn’t have any real passion for the work really put a strain on my mental state for the longest time. Discovering GCF was like finding a bridge that would finally lead me out of my professional stagnation and provide a chance to get my foot in the door in the botany field. Before GCF I was working as a food safety & quality assurance leader. While it was slightly more rewarding than the other tedious office and fast food jobs I was bouncing between prior, I knew deep down that I wanted more for myself and that I didn’t want to simply just settle in my career journey so early on. I would like to thank my family, my colleagues from both the Retrofit Crew, and my current Soil Crew.
