Cohort 30

Shateese Shabazz (she/her)

“

I’ve been in service with Green City force for six months now and I can say that I’ve grown quite a lot as a person since the day I first stepped into the Pfizer building for my interview. Coming into the program I knew exactly what I was interested in; I was most concerned about learning and getting my foot in the door in HVAC. What I hadn’t expected was that I wouldn’t just be stepping into the HVAC field, I’d be entering the vast green energy industry. When I think of GCF I think of the good friends I’ve made along the way, the acquaintances I had good laughs with – they’ll all be missed. Before I enrolled in Green City Force, I was taking a step back from my role as a Shelter Security Guard and trying to decide if I wanted to continue down the same road or change my job trajectory. It was a difficult decision to make because I’ve participated in a six-month program before in the past and it didn’t turn out the way I intended it to. I can remember being in awe when I received the email that I got accepted into the program. All in all, I’m thankful that I decided to take the chance, it worked out in my favor this time around. I have all of the Green City Force staff to thank and myself for my perseverance.
