The day I joined GCF I was terrified of being in a room where I felt I didn’t belong. I had just decided to take a gap year from college when my brother, who’d completed the previous service term, told me that GCF could be a great opportunity for me. As someone who dropped out simply because I didn’t know what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be, I was looking to explore. So I applied, got accepted, and entered that room. I always took an interest in bettering our community, and this organization took that interest and allowed me to help in ways that mattered. They made me feel like I was meant to be in “the room where it happens.” Giving free, organic food to people who don’t usually have access to such resources has been a beautiful thing to witness and knowing that I worked to be a part of it made all of the 5AM wake-ups worth it. Thank you to GCF for allowing me to be a part of something great and shout out to the STURDIEST COHORT #30.
