Cohort 12

Quaming Boatwright

Coming from a background in graphic design, I wanted to transition into a more innovative pathway. In doing so I stumbled upon NYC’s competitive workforce program, Green City Force. Upon joining GCF, I went in with an open mind to a new field of work, gaining professional, team building, and energy efficiency skills and knowledge. I appreciate the staff, team leaders, and my team members for sticking with me and motivating me to take on the opportunities provided by GCF and their connections. It wasn’t an easy journey, but it was a fun and memorable one. I’ve had ups and downs, but I overcame all the obstacles that stood in my path. The feeling of putting in work for a good cause puts me at peace, because this is who I am. I’ve gotten opportunities I haven’t had in the many places I’ve lived, such as getting GPRO certified, working with professional farmers, and meeting great people who have influenced others to take life head on and pursue their passions. Throughout my 10 month service term I managed to connect with the right people that I can share my passion for art, hard work, and a healthier lifestyle with–the same people who helped me to continue my journey with perseverance. Now I will enroll in school for art, use the skills and knowledge I’ve picked up from GCF in my everyday life, and pursue a business that will help change others’ lives as well as my own. It’s never easy to say goodbye, so to my fellow GCF teammates, see you later. Eat better, feel better, do better. Cohort 12.
