To put into words of how Green City Force has somatically shifted me to become my higher self — body, mind, and spirit, isn’t something I can ever relay enough into words. Before I joined GCF, I felt lost. I’ve worked multiple jobs in various fields and dropped college classes where I didn’t feel necessarily fulfilled, seen, fit, happy, nor supported. It wasn’t until a close friend of mine pushed me to join GCF for my love of all things environmental and my prior tree identification and stewarding knowledge, and with that I will never regret the decision to gain an urban agriculture education through GCF. My time at GCF has set a greater foundation for me to look more into seeking and gaining greater insight in food justice, groundskeeping, gardening, sustainability, and most of all horticulture! As a NYCHA resident, I feel honored and empowered to be a part of the fight against food deserts and food injustice in low-income neighborhoods. I’m happy to have completed my service term early to start my gardening/horticulture career as a seasonal Assistant Gardener for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I want to give a special shout out to the Bayview team (Devante, Brittney, Phillip, Will, and Dorian) to ALL the GCF staff, as well!
