Cohort 14

Marcus Staton

Green City Force means a lot to me. I’ve been taught many valuable skills which many won’t even get to learn in this lifetime. I chose to be an Urban Farm Corps Member because I was tired of hassling with the usual 9 to 5 struggle that would lead me nowhere. I wanted to start building a career path. Before Green City Force, I was a Courier for UberEATS, making what I could to survive. It was a fine-paying job at first, but then consumer decline made the job unstable. Since enrolling in GCF, I have learned countless skills in sustainability, such as composting. I also improved my youth advocacy skills by recruiting weekly with my old foster care agency. None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the all of the staff and fellow Corps Members at GCF who pushed me to stay woke even when I wanted to fall asleep.
