Cohort 27

Lizmarie Laboy Nuñez (she/her)

Green City Force is the ability to aim at promoting environmental sustainability, learning and practices within urban agriculture areas. It’s also about making our cities more livable and sustainable for our future and for future generations to come. I became a Corps Member to help people who live in NYCHA and Section 8 because I know the struggle of having to spend a lot on food because our local food market prices have gone up. I know the struggle to find a job and being a Corps Member is an easy start to see what you would want to achieve and accomplish in life. It is beneficial and helps your resume for future jobs. Before GCF, I was taking time to myself after I graduated high school. I wanted to see what my mind was focusing on and see what path God takes me. GCF taught me how to work on my communication, get out of my comfort zone and how to work with others. It gave me my first job experience and the ability to become a better version of myself and taught me way more about urban agriculture, not just about plants but how to distribute food. I would like to thank my Service Coordinator, my site members and Fellows for helping me learn about GCF and how it helps our community be better, also for giving me an opportunity to learn about urban agriculture and teaching me how to grow fresh produce.
