Cohort 7

Joy Junious

By joining Green City Force, I knew I was taking a positive step, moving forward with my life. However, at the time I applied I had not taken into account these four things: how big of a step I was taking; how much of an investment I was making in myself; how much of an investment others were making in me; and how much dedication it would take to invest in the people in great need whom I’d be working with. Having joined Green City Force directly from an environmentally-focused high school, I assumed that being more involved in the environmental issues we face was going to be my only goal. As I leave Green City Force, I am more prepared to be open minded about my job possibilities, and I am more college ready than I was in August 2013. By waking up at 6:30– sometimes 5 AM– to get to Hunts Point to package food at the Food Bank, by being pushed to push myself, by voicing my wants and expressing my needs, I have invested in myself and been invested in by the strong army that makes up Green City Force. I pushed myself all the way to the limit, and because of that I learned how to overcome barriers in my life!
