Cohort 7

Isiah Brockington

Joining Green City Force is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I heard about the program when I was going through a rough period and I couldn’t have joined at a better time. I was struggling in school trying so hard to keep my grades up but that wasn’t working out for me. I also was trying to find a job so I could support my daughter, but unfortunately I wasn’t having much luck there either. Originally I joined GCF for a source of income but I gained so much more during my time here that the stipend was the last thing on my mind. I really learned how to be a better person through this program, such as how to take constructive criticism without taking it personal. The service gave me a chance to experience and learn so many new things I will never forget and that I can take with me for the rest of my life. For example, I helped install the first solar panels in East New York; such an unforgettable experience. I plan on using the knowledge I gained about sustainability and my hands-on experience to find a good job focusing on energy efficiency. I also plan to continue to further my education once I’m established in the green industry. I thank GCF for giving me the chance to make something of myself. This has been the best six-month period of my life.
