Cohort 27

Faith Marcano (she/her)

I learned so much during my 6 month service term with GCF. From learning how to seed, transplant and maintain the different kinds of produce, it has been a beautiful experience to cultivate and give out to the communities. I chose to become a Corps Member to expand my knowledge with horticulture in general. In the past, I’ve owned different plants, yet because I had limited understanding, they never reached their full potential before passing away. Before GCF, I was working in food service, but being in this program taught me that there is more to life than just hosting/being a cashier. We can do something meaningful/care for our community at the same time! One of the most important things I learned with my time at GCF was improving upon my plant identification skills. I can now identify a random scallion/tomato plant while walking home. This program has provided many different opportunities from food handlers license to OSHA certification, I am so grateful to have had this time to learn. I want to thank Nasyah, my Service Coordinator for showing me that we, as women of color, can do anything we put our minds to.
