Elyjiah McPhatter (he/him)

Working at GCF for the past 6 months has been nothing but an amazing learning experience for me. At first I was very skeptical and didn’t see myself working agricultural work. Agriculture was very new to me but something that I got comfortable with and began to understand over time. I didn’t choose to be a Corps Member, it chose me. I saw a job opportunity so I took it and it was one of the best decisions that I’ve made. Before GCF I was employed as a Security Guard. I was also a helper at a moving company. I’ve learned so many things during my service term at GCF, developed new skills and accomplished a lot I never saw myself doing. The most important thing that I’ve learned isn’t just the new skills and the new life or agriculture, for me it was being around all my Corps Members and team. Being around so many different personalities, races and emotions I’ve learned everyone does not learn the same. Everyone does not deal or handle situations the same way. GCF helped me to be more patient and humble with myself more towards others. Therefore, I would like to thank Devon, Giselle, Jacqui, Anissa, Izzy, and Kitson. These 6 individuals have helped, pushed and continue to show me that I can be great. Each person I named gave me a path or showed me a way to elevate and improve myself. I was down 100+ hours due to a lot in my life. They continued to trust me and have faith in me and because of their help I was able to get that 100 down and graduate GCF.
