Cohort 28

Elijah Durbin (he/him)

GCF meant hope and enlightenment. I chose to become a Corps Member because for a while I was lost and stuck and didn’t really know how to navigate through the job world and find work. When I saw the GCF flyer, a lot of the things on it spoke to me like farming, giving back to the community, learning how to work with solar panels, getting my OSHA so I can work with tools, and the leadership training to help me work on some flaws I might have in my methods. The most important thing I learned in GCF is putting myself out there more and how to encourage others to do better and elevate not as coworkers, but as teammates. To wrap this up, I would like to shout out the positive, supportive, and reliable leaders at GCF like Marc, Justin, Izzy, Giselle, Chazz, and my Service Coordinator (SC), the best SC Rosana for pushing the Forest team to do better. I would like to shout out some of my cohort members Will, Randy, Rush, Jada, Endiyah, Vincent, Chris, and many more for sticking it out till the very end and staying true to themselves. Lastly, I would like to shout out my brother Phillip for doing this with me and my mom for always being supportive and wanting the best for me.
