My service term with GCF in my eyes was a journey I can say I enjoyed to the fullest. GCF even opened my eyes when it came to things like urban agriculture and horticulture — who would’ve thought you can be a farmer in New York? I’ve been eating healthier and I’m more conscious about being more environmentally friendly, so I’m recycling collected food scraps when I can. Before GCF I wasn’t really doing much, I was in school but it didn’t turn out the way I thought it would. I was introduced to GCF and just tried to grind hard from there on out. Along the way I’ve met a lot of friends in my journey to glory with GCF — I want to give a special shoutout to my guys Justin and Steven who always kept in contact when I felt my back was against the wall. I can say the same about my Team Leaders Carson when I was in Seva and Chevon now that I’m on Sankofa. It’s crazy how about 8-9 months ago I didn’t know about composting, farming, or how to recycle properly and nowadays I feel like a farmer/ composting master. I feel confident when it comes to questions in this type of sector and I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity at GCF.
