Green City Force, what does that mean to me? Well, usually I would just say that GCF is a job training program for the youth from ages 18-24. That’s on the surface level. On a deeper level, GCF is a place where I found an opportunity to expand my horizons. I had heard of green industry but never really thought of myself taking part in that movement. I became a Corps Member to get work experience and gain skills. Before GCF, I was not able to get a job. I had just graduated high school and I did not want to become another statistic. Here, I was able to gain experience, knowledge and meet some great people. I became certified as a Green Professional and was able to take an electrical auditing course directed by Antuan Cannon of Envirolution. A lesson I will take away with me from GCF is to keep a clear head. Even though I struggled at times, I made peace with my inner demons and I continued to maximize my work ethic. I continued to show up to work almost every day and I continued to support my fellow Corps Members. I thank all of my fellow Corps Members for helping me throughout this term and I appreciated getting to know every single one of them. They are amazing people. I would also like to thank Michael Johnson-Chase for giving me a connection to Harry Epstein, who specializes in LED manufacturing. Lastly, I would like to thank all of my Team Leaders for their motivation and support. GCF armed me with knowledge and transferable skills, but I feel the most important lesson I have learned is to chase your dream while you still can. Don’t be afraid to take risks, but make sure you are doing what you want. No matter what age you are, you should never wait until it’s too late. Keep an open mind but keep peace in mind as well.
