Starasia Foster (she/her)

Green City Force has meant empowerment, purpose, and representation as a young Black woman. It gave me a space where I could grow professionally while making a real difference in my community. I didn’t just learn technical skills in sustainability and urban farming; I also learned that my voice, my presence, and my leadership matter in spaces where we are often underrepresented. I became a Corps Member with GCF because being part of a mission that focuses on environmental justice, particularly in NYCHA communities, allowed me to see how deeply connected climate issues are to racial and economic justice. It made me feel like I wasn’t just building gardens, I was helping build equity. Before GCF I was working at Taco Bell and I always knew there was something way better out there for me to do. One thing I learned during GCF is that the company you kept around you matters. I would love to thank Marc, Hakim, Giselle, Rosana and everyone that truly worked with me and helped me graduate.
