Honestly, initially starting this program I didn’t have any interest in the green world nor did I really understand much about it. So overall I was looking at it as just another way to put money in my pockets. As I continued my experience I wouldn’t want to enjoy 6 months any other way. Becoming a Corps Member with GCF wasn’t really planned but I’m grateful I did because not only did I expand my knowledge on the green world, I actually took pride in what I had to do. I realized my garden was a representation of me, so it motivated me to go above & beyond for my site. Before GCF it was hard for me to get a job so my last was actually SYEP. Working with GCF I learned that one thing that’s prioritized a lot is making sure there’s a comfortable non-hostile work environment, as far as making sure everyone is included and doing well was really like a top priority. I want to especially thank my Service Coordinator who had to deal with me majority of my service term, thank you for everything thank you for being there emotionally & physically, thank you for constantly reminding me of who I am, thank you for making me feel comfortable at all times & most importantly thank you for never giving up on me.
