To me, Green City Force means taking action into your own hands and empowering young people of diverse backgrounds to improve their community. For example, improving energy efficiency so you consume less energy, improving food quality because in low-income neighborhoods it’s of a poorer quality or is surrounded by bodegas and the nearest grocery can be five miles away, or just adding a green space in the community. I became a Corps Member because I was lacking experience and transferable skills and could not figure out what career I saw myself doing for a major part of my life and I wanted to try something new. Before GCF, I just got out of a data analysis program and I was looking for a job that was related to the experience I had. I was contemplating if I really wanted data analysis to be my chosen career for the next 60 years. What I learned during my time at GCF is what you do has an impact on the community, good or bad, how to grow and take care of vegetation and how to use power tools.
