Cohort 26

David Brown (he/him)

At the time I started GCF I was recovering from one of my biggest failures in life and I needed a place that would give me a new start. GCF is that place, the road I was going down wasn’t the best or professional but GCF has imbued me with various silks, a loving community and an environment much better than your average workplace. Before coming to GCF I was focusing on my art and other computer skills to hopefully get a position in that line of work but life plays out differently than what one has planned in a lot of instances. GCF has taught me a lot of things, how to step into my role as a leader in my communities and groups of association without being oppressive. How to harvest, how to lay soil, how to lay gravel, SST training and even my OSHA. The one thing that GCF has really left me with is how beautiful community and numbers can be when everyone is aligned and conditioned with the same goal or mindset. It was extremely beautiful to witness so many young people learn how to grow their own food and be there for one another. GCF means community to me, it reminded me that one man isn’t an army and no man is an island unto himself; which are things previous to GCF I used to pride myself on. All in all, GCF has created a space and community that can ultimately feel like home.
