Being In Green City Force means a lot to me. It’s an experience I will treasure in my heart for the rest of my life. I have made so many good friends and gotten so many wonderful opportunities. The time spent as a Corps Member gave me an opportunity to try something new and to broaden my horizons. Before Green City Force, I kept myself occupied with school and tons of skateboarding, enjoying the positive things occurring in my life. I struggled to find a job. I always have been a creative noodle but I didn’t have much business savvy. Being in GCF has helped me to build confidence within myself as well as my networking skills. I’ve learned many things through Green City Force: to be more communicative and to never give up; some good life lessons. Upon graduating I will be looking for a job in urban agriculture or doing Green energy work. I want to thank each and every member of GCF for taking this ride with me and continuing to support me in my endeavors.
Wow, being a part of the GCF family has meant a lot to me over the past year and six months. I have so many stories and memories to look back on after I leave, not to mention a wide network of people that are willing and able to support me in my future career. I have been given the opportunity travel within New York City and beyond to share the knowledge I learned at GCF and have a meaningful impact on important issues. Now that my term is coming to an end I feel a lot more confident about finding a job that suits my true purpose and know that I won’t have to settle for mediocre entry level positions in retail, or jobs with no mission towards environmental sustainability. After my completion of GCF, I plan on pursuing a job in the urban agriculture field. For the people young and old that have connected with GCF and me, I hope that somewhere along the journey you were encouraged and inspired by us to continue striving for a greener future. It doesn’t take one individual to change the circumstances of our current world, but all of us collectively to change the way we view ourselves. I would like to share this quote by Winston Churchill who said “Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.”
