Steven Berkenfeld retired from a long career in Investment Banking at the end of 2019 to focus entirely on impact and sustainability. He is the founder of Ecotopia Consulting LLC and is primarily engaged in helping earlier stage, mission driven companies in the development and growth of their businesses. Previously, Steven served as senior sponsor of the Environmental and Social Impact Banking Initiative and was Co-Head of the Cleantech Initiative at Barclays Capital. Prior to joining Barclays in 2008, Steven spent over 21 years at Lehman Brothers with roles including Chair of all of the Transaction Approval Committees for Investment Banking and Chief Investment Officer for all principal investing activities. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers in 1987, Steven was an associate at the law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. He holds a J.D. from Columbia Law School and a B.S. from Cornell University.
Steven is a former chair of the board of the Sierra Club Foundation, a member of the board of The Clean Fight and a member of the board of Our Energy Policy, and he has been a sponsor and board member of several projects and organizations focused on social impact and sustainability.
