August is Black Philanthropy Month – help us celebrate!
As a Black-led nonprofit participating in Givebutter’s Black Philanthropy Month campaign, each donation we receive through this campaign link throughout August can be matched 5%!
As “a global celebration and campaign to elevate African-descent giving and funding equity” originally launched by the Women Invested to Save Earth Fund (WISE), Black Philanthropy Month is now an incredible movement honoring the roots of Black giving to support Black-led nonprofits and Black communities across the world.
Black communities have long held rich traditions of mutual aid, collective care and community investment. Despite structural barriers to building wealth, Black Americans donate a higher fraction of their income to charitable causes compared to other racial groups (Tides). But despite these high rates of individual giving, Black-led organizations serving Black communities receive a smaller portion of charitable giving nationwide (Candid).
Help us amplify and sustain our impact as a Black-led organization growing opportunities for BIPOC youth.
Without the generosity of our Black donors, partners and advocates or the leadership of our Black Corps Members, alumni, NYCHA community members, staff and board, our work wouldn’t be possible. Thank you for being a part of and investing in our community.
In service and solidarity,
GCF
