Dear GCF Community,
Happy Earth Day from all of us at Green City Force!
In the spirit of treating each day as Earth Day, GCF Corps Members, Eco-Hub Fellows, alumni and staff have been busy, especially as Cohort 28 nears the end of their service and training terms (don’t miss their graduation on May 9th!) and as Cohort 29 began their journeys with orientation at the start of the month.
From daily Eco-Hub activities to hands-on partner trainings and workshops, here’s a snapshot of how our young adults have recently been building a greener, more resilient NYC:
- Attending the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Brooklyn Bloom Conference
- Participating in an Edible Schoolyard NYC seeding and propagation workshop and tour and Sims Municipal Recycling facility tour
- Completing climate resiliency energy audit training with NY Disaster Interfaith Services
- Engaging in trainings with Solar One and GCF alumni-led Compost Power
- Compost Power speaking on a NY Botanical Gardens Compost Conference panel
- Coming together for a Soaring into Spring GCF alumni convening
- Cohort 29 undergoing Service Corps bootcamp and our 2025 Eco-Hub Fellows being officially sworn in to their 2nd GCF Service Corps terms
GCF has also participated in an incredible lineup of events celebrating Earth Day, Earth Week, and Earth Month – and it’s not over yet!
-
- 4/16-4/25 hosting NYCHA and other volunteers during Earth Week
- 4/15 Mariner’s Harbor Community Center ribbon cutting on Staten Island
- 4/17 Earth Day 2025 Festival in Union Square
- 4/19 Earth Day on Governors Island Celebration
- Congrats to GCF alum Ezekial Morman and all the NYCHA resident Climate Action Grant winners announced at this celebration!
- 4/24 Green Economy Network Clean Energy Connect Workforce and Resource Expo
- 4/26 Brownsville Community Justice Center Eco Fair
- 4/26 2025 NYCHA Farms and Gardens Summit at the Ingersoll Community Center

As we continue to celebrate Earth Month, we look forward to continuing to connect with fellow community members and highlighting the work of our young adult leaders.
Please consider investing in GCF’s programs with a donation this Earth Day! As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit facing the potential loss of AmeriCorps and other federal funding, your support is more critical than ever in sustaining our mission of uplifting young adults’ economic opportunity, environmental leadership, and community empowerment.
Here’s to continually growing community power, climate resilience, and a greener future together – today and every day.
In service and solidarity,
GCF
