Dear GCF Community,
As we continue celebrating Black History Month, we honor the rich culture and countless contributions of Black individuals and communities past and present. A vital part of this legacy lies in the realm of labor (this year’s national Black History Month theme), where Black Americans have helped shape the foundations of our society while fighting for working-class economic opportunities.
The history of Black labor in America is one of resilience, resistance, and hard-fought progress – with Black labor central to American economic development. Black workers have played a pivotal role in the growth of industries like agriculture, construction, and transportation in which so many GCF alumni are now forging trailblazing career paths.
Some inspiring historical Black labor leaders you may or may not know about:
- Fannie Lou Hamer
- John Boyd Jr.
- George Washington Carver
- A. Philip Randolph
- Maida Springer Kemp
- William Lucy
- Isaac Myers
- Bayard Rustin
- Dora Lee Jones

By honoring the contributions of those who came before us, we not only recognize the progress made, but also reaffirm our collective commitment to building a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Join us in amplifying and celebrating Black achievements as we continue advancing racial and economic justice for all everyday. Support the leaders at GCF making history today.
