Dear GCF Community,
On Election Day, we launched our 28th cohort of AmeriCorps service members. They are currently going through orientation and starting to learn about how they can truly be agents of change while building their individual skills and leadership. They are the next generation of civic leaders – and the hope for our #futuregreencity.
At Green City Force, our focus is on environmental, economic, and social justice. Mental and physical health, safety, community, food access, training and good jobs, and service to others are core to what we do as Corps Members, alumni, staff, partners and collaborators, board members, and residents of frontline communities.
Civic engagement is a broad term that refers to a person’s involvement in their community and government, and can include both political and non-political activities. Part of our past success in partnership with various administrations across political parties has been due to our non-partisan focus on justice and giving back to improve the lives and communities we serve to the best of our ability.
Civic participation can take many forms – including voting, volunteering and donating – and as we mark the passing of Veteran’s Day this week, we also honor those who have served our nation as partners in service. In this era of strife and discomfort from all regions of the nation, our collective civic engagement makes all the difference for impacting positive change. We are in a time when nonprofits are struggling to find the resources needed to thrive and survive.
Now that the election has ended, I ask that you consider making a donation to GCF in support of our next chapter together. Our mission to train young leaders to power a green and inclusive economy through service is sustained by your partnership in driving community-led solutions. Thanks very much.
In service and solidarity,
Tonya Gayle
GCF Executive Director
