Green City Force hosted our annual Harvest Festival at each of our Eco-Hub sites throughout October. This year’s festivities welcomed 445 NYCHA residents, volunteers and supporters to our five sites to enjoy pumpkin carving, potato sack races, dancing, arts and crafts, a photo booth, healthy snacks, and raffles while remaining safe according to Covid-19 protocols. In addition to the activities, visitors were also welcomed to pick up their weekly produce at the farm stand. The fresh produce grown by Cohort 22 included collardsturnips, and carrots.

Precious Colon, Community Engagement Coordinator, and Cohort 5 Alumna, shares her reflections: “Harvest Festival is one of the most meaningful events I have to look forward to each year. This year it was so important to let the community know we are still here and we are still a resource. The residents were so excited to come and bring their loved ones. The pumpkin carving, potato sack races, music and getting to reconnect with our NYCHA communities and to celebrate the communities that celebrate us is the most rewarding feeling.”

Also, Cohort 22 is in the home stretch of their service term. Stay tuned for details about their graduation in the coming months. We’re already recruiting for our next group of amazing young NYCHA leaders. Please help to spread the word to any NYCHA 18-24 year olds who may be interested in joining the movement.
