We’ve been welcoming Earth Month this year as we also welcome Cohort 27 Corps Members and our 2024 Eco-Hub Fellows – our newest green economy leaders in training!

As NYCHA’s Civilian Climate Corps and a national model for the recently launched American Climate Corps, GCF Corps Members, Fellows and Alumni are empowered to use their spirit and individual strengths as leaders and advocates for justice-led, community-based climate action starting at our Service, Career Placement, and Social Enterprise sites across New York City:
- Fighting food insecurity through our Farms at NYCHA Eco-Hubs Powered by GCF and sharing knowledge with residents around health, nutrition, and wellness 🌿
- Promoting zero-waste habits like composting with Compost Power to reduce emissions and enhance healthy local biosystems ♻️
- Implementing Eco-Hub solar power as well as home energy improvements for residents through audits and heat sensor installation 🔆
- Green transportation and green infrastructure training 🏬
- Installing rain catchment systems for closed-loop processes💦
- Mitigating extreme heat and air pollution; increasing stormwater capture, carbon sequestration and energy savings; and maintaining neighborhood ecosystem health through urban forestry Social Enterprise projects 🌳
The energy and passion in starting Cohort 27’s environmental justice and workforce development journeys with GCF was contagious as Corps Members wrapped Service Corps “bootcamp” and received their official GCF AmeriCorps uniforms and Eco-Hub team assignments last week!
We are proud to uplift their power both as individuals and together as community members to create positive change across NYC in communities on the frontlines of the climate, social and economic injustice.
