Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and the 10 year anniversary of GCF partnering with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to bring workforce opportunities and proactive sustainability measures to NYCHA communities. You have all been a critical component individually and collectively as the drivers of change toward the green city we want to see. Thank you to everyone for all that you have done to step up and show up for yourselves and others to work toward an equitable future for all.

At GCF we constantly fight for environmental, economic, and social justice. It is not easy work. Although we are not essential workers, what we do know is that what happens after the COVID-19 crisis matters more than ever before. It is a challenging time for all of us and we know that loved ones and others have fallen due to this critical pandemic. We are all fighting to keep ourselves and loved ones safe as we work to keep the future of GCF and what we have to offer to NYCHA communities real and viable.

We are excited to launch our updated website which serves as the primary conduit to message broadly the significance of our mission while we are not able to show up in person to NYCHA residents directly. Please take a moment to review the site and to celebrate all that you have contributed to making our vision possible. We have much more work to do and although we need to pause for the short term, we are in it for the long haul working together to be ready for what comes after this crisis. We need to be positioned to provide job opportunities, food, nutrition education, and sustainable strategies that contribute to ensuring a long-term, vibrant NYCHA community. Appreciation to our entire board and staff, and a special shout out to Panayiota and Bahij who have been working full force to launch the site. Thanks to all of you who have made contributions and offered feedback to the website content. We will continue to track your updates and notes, as well as work towards having consistent formatting of staff bios profiled in the coming days and weeks.

As we move into our new normal and necessarily change our day to day priorities, please know that we are all invested in a plan to be ready for full-throttle engagement and service in the post Coronavirus era. We hope that all of our stakeholders will help to build the GCF community by sharing our message with new audiences via social media channels and other vehicles. For the short term, our website is the broadest platform to reach external stakeholders and funders. We are working hard to secure the needed resources to bring everyone back on board full-time and carry out our work in the months and years ahead. Like the Census, every voice counts. So thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do in the months ahead. We look forward to a time when we can be an in-person community again. In the meantime, please help to share our virtual message of hope, healing, and determination for dismantling systemic barriers that keep underemployed and excluded communities of color from being drivers of their own and greatly needed societal transformation. Stay safe and thank you.

In Service,

Tonya, Chief Development Officer
