Makeena Rivers is a Youth Development Social Worker at Green City Force (GCF). Her background is based in advocating for and promoting the therapeutic healing and empowerment of young black and brown people from socioeconomically disenfranchised communities. She is especially passionate about dismantling pipelines to mass incarceration. In her role at GCF she is able to channel her passions through her work encouraging the development of advocacy skills and therapeutic healing of Corps Members as they support the wellbeing of our communities through contributing to environmental justice. Makeena is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Emory University and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University.
